Ryan Miller won the tournament MVP during the hockey event at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. His play was stellar and but for one goal given up to Team Canada’s Sydney Crosby, the might have been another miracle on ice for Team USA hockey.
The Wall Street Journal had a recent story by Matthew Futterman highlighting Ryan Miller’s personality and the qualities it takes to play goaltender at such high levels of hockey competition. From the article:
“You have to be absolutely reliable,” Mr. Dryden (a hall of fame NHL Goalie) said. “You have to be disciplined. You have to be responsible. You have to have a lot of understated qualities. You have to decide that there is something more important than you are. You have to be willing to play that way. You can’t grab attention by the lapel and insist on it. You’re going to get it sometimes and not get it other times. The game is going to come to you and you’ve got to be willing to accept that. There are not that many people who are really talented who are willing to accept that.”
