Big Win for Deerfield 8U Warriors in Baseball Tournament

Some of the players in our free NFL fantasy leagues are pretty serious baseball players during the summer. When we heard some of our family fantasy sports families and their teammates on the Deerfield 8U Warriors baseball team had earned a great victory, we had to share the news.

They made a great undefeated run to winning the Lake in the Hills, IL Tournament. Way to play like Champions!

From the TribLocal: Deerfield edition:

The Warriors went 5-0 in the 12-team division, beating Palatine’s Red team 16-7, Vernon Hills 16-0 and host team Lake in the Hills Lightning’s Black team 5-4 in Pool play on way to a #1 seed in the playoff tournament.   Kevin Marshall hit two home runs in pool play games. Marshall, Evan Orloff and leadoff man Adam Pottinger all earned MVP medals in Pool Play competition.

In the semi-finals, the Warriors won a rematch against the LITH Lighting by a score of 6-2.  A balanced offensive attack was led by Cory Siegel, Ben Kraemer, Brody Criz and Charlie Chernawsky each with RBI Singles as Warrior pitchers shut out the lighting for the final 5 innings, striking out 15 as they came back from a 2-0 deficit at the end of the 1st inning.

In the Championship game the warriors faced Algonquin’s 8U travel team who got there by beating Palatine’s 8U Black team. The Warriors also trailed 2-0 in this game but went on to score 12 unanswered runs, the big blow a 3-run home run by Evan Orloff to put the game out of reach in the 4th inning.  Jack Sodikoff and Dylan Bizar shut down Algonquin in the middle innings thanks to stellar outfield and infield defense by Brandon Bleiman. The stage was set for a mercy-rule, 10 run victory when Siegel, Pottinger and Criz RBI’s shut the door in the bottom of the 5th.  Alex Cohan and Cole Woodson also starred for the Warriors in Pool Play competition as they took home the first place trophy.
