3 Healthy Back to School Routines for Families

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Here are 3 simple, healthy back to school routines that can help build stronger families and happier, healthier kids. From our friends at the National Fatherhood Initiative.

Routines keep your kids – and you! – sane, happy, and healthy.  Here are the three routines you need to jump-start your kids for school success and maintain your sanity:

Family Exercise Time.  Feel like you can’t fit everything in?  Exercise with your family – that way you get healthy and connect with your kids all at the same time.  Plus, you’re setting an example for them.

This time can be as simple as a family walk or time with Wii Fit – or you can bike, hike, or enjoy another sport as a family.  Choose what works for you.

We try to play catch, either football or with baseball/gloves, twice a week for at least a half an hour. We (mom, dad, 4 year old, 9 year old cousin/neighbor) run routes, play running bases, and take some batting practice. Its a great time for all and it sends the message that being active is fun.

Check out the recently released Book of Champions, a sports motivation and goal achieving setting (and achieving) guidebook for young athletes, teams, and coaches. Give your young star the extra support and structure needed to be the best they can be.
