HOW GROWN-UPS AND KIDS PLAY TOGETHER

Louie and his buddies have come up with some guidelines and tips on how grown-ups and kids can play fantasy football together, have fun, and compete to win some great prizes. If you are new to fantasy sports, check out our Fantasy Sports 101.

Kids and grown-ups can play together by creating a team together, or they can play against one another by being in the same league. Whether a child should play with a grown-up or on their own depends on factors such as the child's age, comfort with math, and sport knowledge.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL PLAYERS 13 or YOUNGER ON AUGUST 1, 2008, MUST SUBMIT PARENT'S/GUARDIAN'S EMAIL WHEN CREATING A TEAM.

Below are basic guidelines that can help in deciding how your family and friend's are going to play.

FOR CHILDREN 9-YEARS-OLD OR YOUNGER

Parents/Guardians etc. should play with these players on a team together, and assist with signing up, drafting players, making trades, and determining which players are going to start each week. This gives the child and their grown-up teammate a great number of opportunities to talk and spend time together. Playing together allows them to discuss  their favorite and best performing players, basic math and fantasy scoring, team strategy, and have fun at Louie's Corner for Kids.

FOR CHILDREN AGES 10 THROUGH 13

Some kids age 10 and above will be able to manage their own team (A parent/guardian's email is still required for registration), while others may be new to fantasy sports or watching professional sports and won't know the players and concepts.

FOR CHILDREN AGES 13 AND UP

Most kids 13 and over are capable of managing their own teams; from researching and planning for the draft, to making trades and choosing starters. That said, many grown-ups and older kids love to play together since it gives them more opportunities to spend time together and play against other kid/grown-up combinations (for example, neighbors, cousins, classmates, troop members, etc.)

FOR GROWN-UPS WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED OR DON'T FOLLOW PROFESSIONAL SPORTS

Fantasy sports are a great way to enjoy sports and spend time with your family and friends. Don't worry if you have never played fantasy sports before or don't follow professional sports.  Fantasy sports are easy to understand and will provide a great way for you to interact with the kids in your life.  SPECIAL HINTS AND ADVICE FROM LOUIE'S FRIENDS

  1. Kyle says to learn as much about each player as you can before you draft them.
  2. Grant likes to pick a running back or quarterback first.
  3. Jennifer suggests using a mock (or practice) draft  before your real draft begins.
  4. Jeremy says to look at the free agent wires to see which players you can pick up to improve your team.
  5. Kali says always have a second player in mind when drafting. Don’t limit yourself to only one choice.
