Pierre Garcon or Austin Collie

Saturday, December 26th, 2009
This post comes from Zach, owner of Grand Theft Football in Dad & Child League 47.  Let’s hear what you all think! Add your comments below.

I’m real impressed by Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie. Although Collie is the 3rd WR, I think Pierre Garcon might be able to take the position because he has the most points. But Peyton likes relying on young kids like Collie, so will Collie keep his position or will Garcon take it from him?

Cincinnati Bengals Beat

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Our own Cincinnati Bengals kids sportswriter, Adam, submitted his thoughts on the Bengals-Lions game and his picks from Week 13.  Now we are going to review his analysis and see how well he did!  Our comments are in italics.

By the way, we are looking for more kids sportswriters to cover the NFL and other sports throughout the year.  If you’d like to hop on board the Family Fantasy Sports reporters bandwagon let us know. We are always looking for more writers, so submit your thoughts, comments, picks, articles, editorials, whatever!

Bengals Will Topple The Lions
By Adam Schimberg

I’ve got some picks for you. Read ‘em and weep.

CIN vs. DET= 35-17 CIN (actual: 23-13 CIN)
PHI vs. ATL= 28-21 PHI (actual: 34-7 PHI)
STL vs. CHI= 42-14 CHI (actual: 17-9 CHI)
TEN vs. IND= 38-10 IND (actual 27-17 IND)
DEN vs. KC= 35-24 DEN (actual 44-13 DEN)
NE vs. MIA= 35-31 NE (actual 22-21 MIA)
OAK vs. PIT= 28-3 PIT (actual 27-24 OAK)
NO vs. WASH= 45-17 NO (actual 33-30 NO)
TB vs. CAR= 21-17 CAR (actual 16-6 CAR)
HOU vs. JAC= 28-14 HOU (23-18 JAC)
SD vs. CLE= 35-10 SD (actual 30-23 SD)
DAL vs. NYG= 31-21 DAL (actual 31-24 NYG)
SF vs. SEA= 28-24 SEA (actual 20-17 SEA)
MIN vs. ARI= 35-10 MIN (actual 30-17 ARI)
BAL vs. GB= 17-10 GB (actual 27-14 GB)

OVERALL 10-5
An excellent performance from Adam, proving once again that the Family Fantasy Sports crowd can make the predictions for NFL games just as well (if not better!) than the experts on TV.

Now here are my fantasy picks: I think that Carson Palmer will have a monster game against the Lions defense. Look for the NO defense to stand strong against the Redskins. Check out Steve Slaton, because he’ll run all over the Jags. Chad Ochocinco will be a beast with the arm of Palmer behind him. Matt Stover will make his PAT’s and a field goal against the low-morale TEN defense. I hope you enjoyed my picks.

Since I’m from Cincinnati, I root for the Bengals. When they play the Lions, look for their O-Line to stand strong, and topple the Lions D-Line. Let’s play some football!

Palmer - 15.5 points, decent game

New Orleans DST - 14 points, HUGE game

Slaton - 0 points (injury)

Ochocinc0 -19 points, HUGE game

Stover - 9 points, HUGE game

Adam was pretty much dead-on accurate with his fantasy picks for Week 13.  We think they should add a spot for him on one of the big pregame shows. Anyone at ESPN listening?!

Week 13 - Alex Report

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

It was a strong showing in Week 12 from our 8-year-old fantasy guru, Alex, owner of the 9-3 Determinators in the Campbell Football League.  Some of his best picks were Donald Driver, Larry Johnson, and LT!

Here are his picks for Week 13…

My favorite prediction from last week was LT!  And he scored 2 TDs!  I’m picking two  players at each position this week, so here ya go!

PLAYERS TO START:

RB:
Larry Johnson or Ced Benson - If Benson is healthy, he’ll be the guy to start.  Otherwise, look for another nice day by LJ (or whomever is at RB for Cincinnati) … at home against Detroit.
Ray Rice - He’s been doing pretty good, GB’s run defense is not that good.  Look for a big game from Rice.

QB:
Drew Brees - 5 TDs last week against the Pats!  You can’t not play Brees!
David Garrard - Garrard is the top-rated available QB in the Campbell Football League, and he’s playing Houston at home … they give up lots of points.

WR/TE:
Miles Austin - Giants defense has been pretty bad, and Austin is “not good, but pretty good.”
Antonio Gates - Playing Cleveland, had a good week last week.  He should do well.

DST:
Philly’s DST - Atlanta is missing Michael Turner, their backup fumbles a lot, and DeSean Jackson is good, too.
Indy’s DST - They’re just good (and happen to be owned and started by Alex this week!)

K:
Shayne Graham - Bengals will score a lot!
Rian Lindell - The Bills are scoring more these days… Alex thinks you should pick their kicker!  (Plus, they often don’t score TDs) :-)

Lions will ROAR this Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Our Kid Correspondent is 12-year-old Evan, owner of the King of the Jungle team at Family Fantasy Sports.

I am writing this article for Family Fantasy Sports on the team I love, the Detroit Lions. It’s not easy being a Lions fan these days because they are not having a great season, again.  But last week was the best Lions game I have seen and it gives me hope for Thursday’s game against the Packers.

There are some reasons for Lions fans to be thankful for their team this Thanksgiving.  First of all, Matthew Stafford played a ridiculous game against the Browns last week and carried them to a victory after being down 24-3 in the first quarter!  He is up for two weekly awards, the NFL Rookie of the Week and the NFL Player of the Week.  He should win them both for sure since he passed for 422 yards and threw 5 touchdowns.  Plus he came back into the game after injuring his shoulder, which showed his toughness.

The Lions are also playing on Thanksgiving in a tradition that they started.  With the Packers coming to town, everybody is pumped up and ready for the Lions to start a winning streak!

Everybody should join the Lions Facebook page and become fans of one of the greatest teams in NFL history!

The Alex Report is back!

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Alex, the 8-year-old fantasy guru and owner of The Determinators, is back to make his picks for Week 12.  He had a strong showing in his picks for Week 10, so let’s see how he does now!

OK, folks!  Here is your Alex Report!

Players to START:

  • Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, and/or Greg Jennings … they are playing Detroit, and Detroit is just horrible.  (Editor’s note, that about says it.) :)
  • Nate Burleson Sea @ St. Louis.  He’s good.  And St. Louis is bad.
  • DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia vs Washington.  He might be a good option as both a receiver and special teams player (Eagles DST)
  • Larry Johnson, Cincinnati vs Cleveland.  Johnson will probably play, and the Bengals are home against Cleveland.  (If Benson plays, better to start him!)
  • LT!  Yes, believe it or not, Alex is calling for a big game from the former San Diego superstar against their division rival, the Chiefs!
  • Adrian Peterson (the Minnesota one, not the Chicago one) … Minnesota vs Chicago.  He’s always a good pick!  (and he’s at home)

Sleepers:

  • Ray Rice, Baltimore vs Pittsburgh.  Playing at home.
  • Donovan McNabb.  He’s playing pretty well, and he gets to play Washington.

Picks for Week #10 from The Determinators

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009
Alex, the 8 year-old-owner of the 7-2 Determinators (Campbell Football League), has offered up his thoughts on players who should put in good performances during Week 10 of the NFL Fantasy Football Season. Do you agree or disagree? Let us know.
  • Drew Brees (NO vs. St. Louis)… Brees vs. the Rams defense?? Yes!
  • Percy Harvin (MN vs. Detroit)… He’s playing Detroit. That says it all.
  • Joe Flacco (Bal vs. Cleveland)… He has been good, 300 yard games, and plays Cleveland.
  • RBs… any of these: Chris Johnson (Ten vs. Buf), Adrian Peterson (MN vs. Detroit), or MJD (Jac vs. NYJ)… All of these guys should have big weeks based on who they are playing.
  • Defense? Try Baltimore vs. Cleveland and Brady Quinn. Or Maybe New Orleans vs. The Rams.

Owners Share Their Favorite Live Sports Memories

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

This past week we asked a bunch of team owners at Family Fantasy Sports to share their favorite live sports memories. They obliged and you can read some of what they sent in below. We discussed this topic on our radio show (you can listen to the archive). Feel free to share you favorites in the  comment section.

“Watching my sister’s high school softball team win the state championship was awesome. Its the only finals I have watched live and it was intense.” Boomer’s Banjo Band (Open 188)

“I got lucky and got to go to Giants win over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. I went with my Dad, my uncles, my brothers, and some cousins. The Arizona desert and Suaro Cactus were cool and the Giants comeback win made it the best game ever.” GMan12 (League of Greats)

“Anytime I am playing in a game is my favorite live sporting event. I am always playing soccer, baseball, and skating.  I love sports.” 6ataTime (Dad & Child 17)

“I went with my Uncle Jay to the 2006 NCAA tournament and watched #11 Mason beat #1 UConn in the East Regional finals. Patriot Pride!” Skins Fans Forever (Open League 191)

Our question for next week: If you were the NFL Commissioner, what would you change? (you can write us at info@familyfantasysports.com)
