Herschel Telescope finds Giant Hole in Space

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Can you see that hole? A star was just born! Cool!

There is a new cosmic mystery out there. The Herschel Space Observatory has used its infared telescope to find a hole in space which many scientists believe is the final stages of the star forming process. No one has ever seen a hole like this before.

From the article,

The astronomers think the hole must have been opened when the narrow jets of gas from some of the young stars in the region punctured the sheet of dust and gas that forms NGC 1999. The powerful radiation from a nearby mature star may have also helped to create the hole, researchers said.

Whatever the exact cause of the hole may be, the discovery may be an important glimpse into the way newborn stars shake off their birth clouds that helps astronomers develop a better understanding of the entire star-forming process, researchers said.

Amazing $900 (and up) Bennett Recycled Robots

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

These recycled robots from Bennett Robot Works are super creative and costly, but they are also super cool and worth checking out and admiring.  These are truly works of art and we should treat them as such.

We love these Bennett Recycled Robots. Thanks to Playgrounder for the find.

Thank you to our friends over at the Playgrounder for pointing these out to us.

What do you think? Have you every made any thing out of materials that others consider to be junk? We have a friend who makes pieces of origami out of all of the old office paper from his mom’s office. He makes birds and dragons and trees. I wonder if he has ever made an origami out of that old copy paper. Would love to see how his paper robot stacks up against some of Bennett’s recycled robots.
